When we were all forced to "shelter in place" by the COVID-19 pandemic, Nancy Linder (our fearless leader) refused to let the choir go on hiatus. Passover was fast approaching, followed a week later by Yom Hashoah. Both events feature both the adult choir and the Junior Choir singing iconic songs for those occasions, and Nancy decided that what we (and the congregation) needed was "virtual choir" videos. Like an idiot, I volunteered to produce some videos. How hard could it be? I knew my way around the video editing software (kind of), and I enjoy the artistic challenge. I had no idea that it would turn into about 3 full (12-hour) days per video by the time Nancy and I produce "sing-along" voice part recordings for the choir to sing with, collect videos from the choir, and plan, storyboard, and edit the videos.
But I'm an artist and techo-geek at heart, and I'm loving it. Each video gets a little better as I explore the dark corners of the editing software to find tools to make us look and sound better. So, now we're getting ready to do videos for the High Holidays. I can't wait! Until next time,

AuthorBob Altman is a software engineer and musician who found himself pressed into service creating "virtual choir" videos when the Beth David Choir found itself stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nancy Linder, our fearless leader, refused to let the choir go on hiatus, so now we're all working harder than we've ever worked before. Let me tell you, it's brutal having to listen to yourself!
